The Great Marble Challenge

The Great Marble Challenge
The teacher gave the class an assignment to do. They were doing a marble race. He put them into groups of 3 and made a ramp for the marbles to roll on. They created a graph for the ramp so they know what to do. Once they finished their ramp plan, they started to build their ramp. The team with the most points after ten rolls would be  crowned the  supreme champion. They were given 15 weeks to complete the assignment.

Christchurch Earthquake

Christchurch Earthquake

During 2010, Christchurch had a 7.1 Richter Scale Eartquake. The earthquake caused liquefaction. Dr Nicol said “The Christchurch experience teaches us that liquefaction might in some cases cause bigger problems for people than movement on the fault itself.”

The 2010 earthquake richter scale was 7.1, but nobody died.
The second earthquake was on the 22nd of February 2011. This earthquake’s richter scale was 6.3. Unlike the earthquake in 2010, this one was worst. One Hundred and eighty-five people were killed, mostly when multi-storied buildings collapsed.

Scientists are using Christchurch earthquakes as an example to learn from it, so they can warn people to make good choices about where they live.

Accidental Plastics by Kate Potter

Accidental Plastics by Kate Potter

By reading this article I found out that things can be invented with plastics.  There are a few people who invented things made from plastic.

Plastic literally means easy to bend or mould into different shapes. Plastic was discovered in the mid 1800s. First a man named John Wesley Hyatt invented a celluloid in 1869. Secondly, a man named Edouard Benedictus invented a safety glass.

How he made a safety glass by hitting a flask was by  accident. He noticed that after the flask had fallen and banged on to the floor, it would stay in one place so he stayed up all night working how to make a safety glass.

And finallly  a scientist named Alan Holloway made blue tack in 1970. unnamed.png
